Who we are

We are the Newtown Group of Alcoholics Anonymous. The group is comprised of members and service representatives who are also members. Private information is only shared with elected service representatives. 

It is the technical assistant of this group who is responsible for the collection and storing of data on behalf of the group. They can be contacted at aanewtown@gmail.com.

What information we collect

There are three groups of information that we collect.

General members’ contact information

We collect names and email addresses of individuals in order to send them emails about our activities. We collect this information via forms on this website and in person. It is stored and handled in our Google account which ensures that it is kept safely and confidentially. Their privacy policy can be read here. Google do not use the data we store. Our website uses SSL encryption to ensure that information collected via our website cannot be intercepted.

Cookies

When you visit this website small files are stored on your device called cookies. These are small text files that are placed on your device to help the site provide a better user experience. In general, cookies are used to retain user preferences, store information and provide anonymised tracking data to third party applications like Google Analytics. Analytics

When you visit our website we use a third-party service, Google Analytics, to collect standard internet log information and details of visitor location and behaviour patterns. We do this to find out things such as the number of visitors to the various parts of the site. This information is only processed in a way which does not identify anyone. We do not make, and do not allow Google to make, any attempt to find out the identities of those visiting our website. We will never collect personally identifiable information through analytics of our website. The use of the Google services is covered under the Google Privacy & Terms 

Google Analytics is Google’s analytics tool that helps website and app owners to understand how their visitors engage with their properties.

How we share information

General members’ contact information is never shared with anyone outside of the group servants.

The contact information for members who volunteer to be phone responders or service officers, is shared with the local Intergroup and may be shared with the local Regional Assembly and the General Service Office of Alcoholics Anonymous (UK). We never share your information with third parties.

How you can unsubscribe or ask to be forgotten

If you no longer wish to be contacted by the group, simply send an email including you name and contact details to aanewtown@gmail.com with your request. All such requests will also be passed to the local Intergroup, Regional Assembly and the General Service Office of Alcoholics Anonymous (UK).
